A fragmented hyacinth stain

“like 2 hyacinth in the mountains trampled by shepherds until only a purple stain remains on the ground” Sappho

A fragmented hyacinth stain (2010, 2018) – 13′

Version: soprano saxophone, quartz bowls (2018)

The piece gradually uncovers its own unknown script, its graphic dimension which is to be solved uniquely by the performer. The performer draws from the knowledge of the compositional world it encounters at first, and then approaches the dissolution of this knowledge, as the conventional notation disappears.

Thank you Hayden Chisholm and Pina Rücker for this stunning interpretation of ’A fragmented hyacinth stain’ (originally for Baroque Recorder) performed in 2018, at the Brüderkirche, Kassel.

This is a wonderful live recording from the beautiful Brüderkirche (Church) in Germany. Hayden Chisholm plays the saxophone, surrounded by Quartz bowls by Pina Rücker. This atmospheric work invites you to take a 10 minute restorative pause....
